Johnsons idea of aladdin kerosene lamps were inspired by a combination of seeing German kerosene lamps and his childhood struggle with poor light when studying without electricity in the rural areas of America.

He thought of bringing light to the people in the rural areas. He formed the company Western Lighting Company in Minneapolis which would then produce lambs and shades. Quickly became a success after Johnson acquired Center-Draft company and introduced his aladdin label derived from the famous story of aladdin and the wonderful lamp.

These lamps were a success because they are much more efficient than other mantle or kerosene lamps. Since then, this brand of lamps has become popular all over America and across the world.
