Actually, the base is not black, but was produced in several dark shades which look black until held against a bright light. This one looks purple when held against the sun, which I think means it is amethyst.
It has its original nickel plated Model B burner--I say "its original burner" because when I got it, there was matching dust on both. The chimney has a three line logo, which is consistent with models 12, A, and B production. It is a beautiful lamp, with NO chips, cracks, or breaks. It has a flame spreader, and an original wick, which will probably need to be replaced for use.
