Prior to listing, I did a check on the lamp to find out as much as I could. This is an Aladdin Hurricane Lamp Model #23, which has been in production for some time, going back decades. This particular lamp was made in the early 1970's. The Aladdin Lamp company is still in existence today and lamps continue to be made in Dalton, Ohio. This lamp measures 22 tall from the base to the top of the chimney glass.
The chimney glass alone measures 15" and has the "Aladdin name etched on the glass. The base is made of a milk-colored glass and has a design of wild daisies on the front side. Atop the base is the brass workings including the dial to adjust the burner level which increases / decreases the size of the flame while lit. From a casual inspection, all the pieces appear to be undamaged, with no scratches, cracks or visible blemishes on the glass. The brass is tarnished from age and use, but is also in good condition.
The dial has the "Aladdin" logo on it as well as the number "23" designating it as Model 23. Sitting atop the burner is the wick, which will likely need a new attachment as the old one has been used and is likely spent. The clear glass chimney rests on the brass burner surface, sliding down via four glass notches and then turns to lock in place. The glass is clouded from age and use and although I did attempt to carefully clean it, it may require a longer soaking to help remove some of the clouding.
Overall, the lamp is a beautiful piece and will get the attention of anyone who sees it. Either on a mantle to use during a power outage, or perhaps as a nighttime source of illumination, this would be a nice addition to anyone's home. NOTE: Unlike another identical oil lamp, which I posted previously, while inspecting this lamp, I noticed that the dial that raises and lowers the burner core DOES move. When the dial is turned, the burner core raises and lowers, causing the flame to increase or decrease depending on how high the burner is raised up.Even though it works, it will likely need a cleaning just to ensure everything works properly. ALSO: As stated, I posted a nearly identical Aladdin Oil Lamp of the same design. The other one is also undamaged, complete and includes the original, undamaged chimney glass.
So if you're interested in the pair, just let me know. The base and chimney have been separately bubble-wrapped and packed with padding to protect against movement and damage in transit. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
